Markets will be interested to hear what Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has to say about the current economic climate. Bernanke will be in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, speaking about financial stability. There will be no macroeconomic data coming out of Canada.

At 9 a.m. EDT, the National Bank of Belgium will release its business confidence index for August, which is expected to decline to a score of -8.0 from July's -7.6 reading.

At 10 a.m. EDT, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics will release mass layoffs for July. In June, there were 1,643 mass layoff actions.

Also at 10 a.m. EDT, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke will speak on financial stability at Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
