I want to find the best mortgage rate and the least amount of fees (including YSPs). Do I have to pay for an appraisal to get this information (good faith estimate) from multiple lenders/brokers? The reason I ask is because I have been told that an appraisal from one lender cannot be given to another lender. So I do not want to pay $350 to multiple lenders just to find the best rate. Plus, the recent changes in the mortgage industry seem to favor lenders over brokers. |

What happens to additional money paid on a pay option mortgage? I was told that it would be applied to the principal and I could, if I choose to, pay off the loan more quickly. Example: Loan amount is $250,000 interest only option minimum payment $800. If I chose to pay $1,200 int and principal amt, does the additional $400 really reduce the principal amt or am I getting the wrong info? And what happens in the following years if I make the min payment at any time? |
