Decline in number of FHA appraisers
Starting on October 1, 2009 the FHA required all FHA roster appraisers to be certified. Under the current rules, certified appraisers must have certain number of college credits, take additional training, have more experience hours and pass an additional test. Under the new rules old roster appraisers were not "grandfathered" resulting in a substantial drop in the number of FHA roster appraisers. About 18,808 appraisers were removed from the roster. That is approximately a decrease of 29%. It is estimated that the number of currently approved FHA appraisers stands at 45, 664. These numbers were posted by Len Fishman on 10/6/2009.
