Lesson Learned, Never work for CW

So even though I was with a great team at Countrywide, at the end of the day, I still got screwed by the man. They have been miscalculating my commission for the last month for my last two purchases, and finally sent me a check that was $800 short. Previous Manager told me it would be fixed on Friday, and I just got a call from him saying Payroll found some "uncollected fees" from the transactions which I had to pay out of my commission.

Just another story to add to the list of CW CRAP! Angry

Unfortunately I think this is the case with most companies in this business. Either big or small, once you walk out the door you're never going to get a fair shake. It's like an unwritten rule in the book of mortgage skeeze

I worked at CW for 3 weeks, they lied to me about the way I was going to be paid, I was walking in the door with about 10 loans, after 2 weeks I finally got one of the LO's who had been there for quite sometime to sit with me and show me exactly how I would be paid, I was blown away.

As a SE loan officer my income was triple, CW was making all the money and I was walking out of there with nothing, I went to my manager that day and told her that I just couldn't afford to work there, she tried to tell me that it would be worth it just the have the name "countrywide" backing me, I didn't come back the next day, that would have been the biggest mistake I had ever made.

Plus, they were weird there.  Really quiet, cubicles and did I mention weird azz people, alot of old ladies that thought their *** didn't stink, that was the worst place I have ever worked at, 3 weeks almost scarred me for life.

Few years ago, maybe 3? Company down here, Benchmark office, wanted to hire me to bring in more commercial etc. They offered base salary of 1500 week and all deals 60% commish...figured I'd give it a shot as they sounded nice over the phone. Went to meet them late one night so nobody else was there, went over everything and signed the stuff. Told them I'd be there to start next day, so come in the morning and total boiler room operation (they had people calling rental ads and pretneding to be interested prospects in renting and then casually go into how they are a mortgage broker and what are they paying on their rental etc, just so sleazy sounding). So I get there, and ends up no base salary, and commish is like 15 or 20%. Hahaha. Got into it with one of the mngrs as well as the operator of the office and told them to f' off in front of everyone and walked out (must have had about 80 employees watching us). They were throwing a football in there and I caught it and walked out with it lol, they left messages asking for their football back.

What was really funny is I think they were in shock that I grabbed their "idol" and walked out as nobody stopped me lol, even when I was there early in the morning they were all throwing it I guess to get pumped up. The message wasn't even rude that they left, just a polite can we please have our football back....I was laughing so hard, would have thought I stole something serious...but maybe it was their mojo? lol

So if Benchmark reads this, I still have your ball Cool

They have no business ethics or business sense. Think about being the largest lender in the US and being so severely undercapitalized that you are one of the first to go out of biz. Carnagie and Ford would be rolling in their graves.

Why were you giving them business? You would think with all your BO friends, you would have had a trusted friend to send the referral.

It doesn't matter the company, when someone leaves before their last paycheck, something always happened. When I quit corporate at Lending Tree many moons ago, I waited until I got my last commission check. I walked away from my 6.25/hr payday bu collected the commission.

And just to be clear, I always paid every LO I had on their last deal except for two. Those two, I fired after I caught then sending files to another broker. But, I felt that was justified for all the money they cost me.

They were already pre-approved through CLUES and I was trying to do the right thing by giving them to my Manager vs. sending them somewhere else. Their Realtors were local and he was going to continue growing the relationships that I created and handed over to them. The plan was, I'll come back to the team in a couple years or so and pick up where I left off. But fot that time being, I convinced myself that I was done with the business and just wanted to wash my hands of everything. Somewhat rash I guess...

I know I know, I'm still young and have lots to learn, especially when it comes to trusting people! But I have taken a lot away from this situation, and plan on making more calculated decisions in the future.
