If you do not vacate prior to the sale, the new owner will be in touch with you to provide you with a timeline for moving. Depending on your circumstances and state regulations, it could be quite quick . . . or it could be months.
Some states have implemented new laws giving renters a longer time frame to move out. In Washington State the foreclosure laws were changed this year and a tenant has 60 days from the sale date to move out and an owner has 20 days to move out. I don't know if the time frames are different for a sheriff's sale.
The owner of the property should have set the proper expectations with out about how long you can stay. You might want to talk to them if one month won't be long enough to look for a new place.
