Absolutely, check the credibility of anyone you are putting your faith into. Many people are unsuccessful at getting the results the homeowner is asking for. And then many people are praying on desperate people and running. One of my clients told me a scammer was caught by her sister who is in the FBI and it took 6 MONTHS to convict a guy who stole almost 400,000 from desperate homeowners. Where are the regulations??????????? Seriously. But I agree on getting references or read testimonials online. Or better yet, find out how long the company has been doing loan modifications and if they were previously a lender that helps. Check out the liscense and chamber of commerce for their state. Its easy to weed out the "scammers" but its not easy to get the results you're looking for with inexperienced companies/attorney's/people claiming to deliver a modification service.
