Find the Size of Each Room of the House I'm Buying
Is there a way to find the actual size of each room of a house that I am interested in buying... short of just going out and measuring. It is an old home (over 100 years) with lots of windows. I'd just like an idea of the actual "floor plan" with dimensions.

Your Real Estate agent should be able to help you with getting the dimensions of the home.  If you have a muptiple listing sheet (MLS) from your agent those figures should be posted on the sheet.

You could also ask if there is an old appraisal on file on the home.  that would have the info as well.

If your county appraiser's office is online, many times they will have a sketch of the home with dimensions.

    Check out this website

    http://www.antiquehome.org/House-Plans/

This site has thousands of antique house floorplans and links to other sites with even more. Spend a few minutes figuring out how to navigate and open the links and then try and find a good sample of the house you're interested in. You should be able to find it. The left side of the page has links to various years of periods with types of houses, specific designs or certain architects. That link will take you to a page with links on the left again which will take you to a page with a rendering of the house and a detailed set of floorplans.

Even if you can't find an exact home like yours you might find something similar enough. And it's kind of fun and informative.

    Here's a link to a sample page...

and here's a screen snippet of a page.

oops. I posted the wrong link but corrected it. I inadvertently post a link to some business card mock ups I was working on.

Very few residential appraisers include interior partion walls in their sketches. And the few who do (me, for instance) don't draw in the walls to scale. It's just a diagram to help visualize the floorplan.

    Sort of like this...

Now if someone could just tell me the size of these columns I could post stuff that wouldn't get clipped.Embarrassed

You can always try the website http://www.zillow.com but a Realtor's MLS listing is always going to be better...
