How do I obtain a full mortgage history?

Okay my family has found itself in a bit of a bind. We were asked to provide proof of our mortgage for an emergency loan situation. Then we were told there are two other mortgages still on our credit report (making three all together)  and we have to find proof that they were payed. We tried tracing it through our own records but are drawing blank spaces. Over the years we've had companies buying our mortgage from each other with out us even knowing. So our records are incomplete. So is there a way of finding a full mortgage history that will show what company payed off what company so that we can verify that the two companies were payed (both of which seem to be now out of business)?

    thanks.

Your question should have a simple answer, but even with the current laws to protect you against this happening, the answer is not simple.

Your first step would be to ask the company that told you that there are two other loans against your property to supply you with the names, addresses and phone numbers of the lenders reporting these loans. You can try calling them and requesting a letter that you do not owe them money because the loan was sold. This may help youto get the loan for your emergency , but unless they report it to the credit bureau, and unless an assignment or reconveyance has been recorded, it will be a problem in the future.   Make sure you follow-up with a written request asking them for a certified copy of the recorded assignment or reconveyance of the loan in question.
