The Connecticut State Department of Consumer Protection oversees all aspects of professional licensing and enforcement of the real estate industry through the Connecticut Real Estate Commission.

The real estate education requirement for a real estate salesperson license in Connecticut is 60 hours of Real Estate Principles and Practices from an approved real estate school. Those applying for a real estate broker license need 120 hours of specific real estate classes.

Before applying for a real estate broker license in Connecticut applicants need to have two years of actively holding a Connecticut salesperson license.

If the applicant for a real estate agent license has taken some or all of the educational courses in another state, or already taken an examination in another state, then their courses might be accepted for Connecticut real estate courses or they might only have to take the Connecticut portion of the real estate exams.



The application fee for a real estate salesperson license is $80.00 and the application fee for a real estate broker license is $120.00.

Those holding a salesperson license have until May 31st of each year to renew it and those holding a broker license have until March 31st of each year.

Connecticut license fee information and real estate agent forms can be obtained online. The license fee for a salesperson license is $285.00 plus $20.00 for the Guaranty Fund. The annual license fee for a broker license is $565.00 plus $20.00 for the Guaranty Fund.

After the initial year, the renewal fee for a real estate broker license is $383.00 on even years and $375.00 on odd years. The renewal fee for a salesperson license is $293.00 on even years and $285.00 on odd years.

Connecticut has reciprocal agreements with several other states for applicants who are licensed in another state in good standing. The requirements for their obtaining a Connecticut agent license vary depending on the other state and the applicant's education and examination status in that state.

Connecticut real estate careers are enhanced by membership in organizations such as The Connecticut Association of Realtors and the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) assist many in locating real estate jobs within the industry. The Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO) and The National Association of Realtors (NAR), the world's largest professional association, are excellent resources for real estate education and professional enrichment.
