Become A Mortgage Broker In New Hampshire
The New Hampshire
Banking Department supervises all aspects of the Mortgage Brokers application and
activities in New Hampshire. Offices are located in Concord.
All New Hampshire mortgage licenses are handled through the National Mortgage Licensing System.
Prelicensing requirements include approved courses that are 20 or more hours and contain 3
hours of Federal Law, 3 hours of Ethics, 2 hours of Non-traditional Mortgage Lending plus
12 or more hours of electives. This may be in addition to New Hampshire-required content. Continuing Education
Requirements include at least eight hours of NMLS approved instruction.
The licensing fee for NMLS for Loan
Originators is $169, and the fee for Mortgage
Broker is $600. Click on the link in the preceding sentence for more details
about each license.
Mortgage Brokers must provide a $50,000 continuous Surety Bond. The bond amount is not contingent upon net worth, although the company must
maintain a minimum positive net worth at all times. Mortgage Broker
applicants who live outside of New Hampshire must appoint an agent in New Hampshire to
represent them. This agent has to have a NH business address and be open during regular
business hours.
Those wanting to become a Mortgage Broker in New Hampshire need to provide a full
disclosure of financial history, income, assets, liabilities, financial statements and
employment.
Although Mortgage Brokers doing business in New Hampshire do have an affiliate association
with the National Association of Mortgage Brokers, the
New Hampshire group does not maintain a separate web site. Those wanting to become a
Mortgage Broker in New Hampshire will benefit by contacting the local association.
