Become A Mortgage Broker In Connecticut
The Department of Banking oversees
all aspects of the Mortgage Broker businesses in Connecticut, and their offices are
located in Hartford.
All Connecticut mortgage licenses are handled through the National Mortgage Licensing System.
Prelicensing requirements include approved courses that are 20 or more hours and contain 3
hours of Federal Law, 3 hours of Ethics, 2 hours of Non-traditional Mortgage Lending plus
12 or more hours of electives. This may be in addition to Connecticut-required content. Continuing Education
Requirements include at least eight hours of NMLS approved instruction.
The licensing fee for NMLS for Loan
Originators is $369, and the fee for Mortgage
Broker is $600. Click on the link in the preceding sentence for more details

Connecticut mortgage broker applicants provide a Surety Bond in the amount of $40,000
for each office that they maintain, branch or otherwise. They also must provide financial
statements and history of their past experience
The Connecticut Society of
Mortgage Brokers (CSMBCT), is an affiliate of the National
Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB) . The CSMBCT actively supports legislation that
promotes a higher quality of professionalism among Mortgage Brokers, and can provide
up-to-the-minute information to anyone who wants to become a Mortgage Broker in
Connecticut.
