Some U.S. house price data and consumer confidence figures top the day's main economic events on Tuesday, along with some central bank speakers from the Bank of Canada and European Central Bank.

At 9 a.m. EDT, S&P and Case Shiller will release its house price index for February, which is excepted to decline to 142.8 from 146.4 in January - an 18.7% contraction from last year. In January, the annual rate of decline was 18.97%.

At 10 a.m. EDT, the U.S. Conference Board will release consumer confidence data for April. Economists expect the headline index to rebound to 29.9 in April from 26.0 in March. Also to be closely watched will be the current conditions and expectations index, which came in at 21.5 and 28.9, respectively, in March.

Also at 10 a.m. EDT, the Richmond Fed will release its manufacturing index for April, which is expected to rise to a reading of -17 from -20 in March.

At 11:30 a.m. EDT, the U.S. Treasury will sell $20 billion in four-week bills.

At noon EDT, Austrian central bank President Ewald Nowotny will speak at a book presentation in Vienna.

At 12:30 p.m. EDT, European Central Bank Governing Council member Lorenzo Bini Smaghi will speak at a monetary policy conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

At 1 p.m. EDT, the U.S. Treasury will sell $35 billion in five-year notes.

At 3:30 p.m. EDT, Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney and Deputy Governor Paul Jenkins will testify before the Standing Committee on Finance at the House of Commons in Ottawa.

At 5 p.m. EDT, ABC will release its consumer confidence index for the week ending April 26. Economists expect no change to the previous week's score of -47.
