What is a jumbo mortgage?
A jumbo mortgage is a loan in an amount that exceeds the conforming loan limits established by the FHFA for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Conforming Loan Limits are set by geographical area, based on median home prices. If the loan amount is greater than Freddie or Fannie's loan limits, the loan is referred to as a "jumbo mortgage".
