Become A Real Estate Agent In Vermont

The Vermont
Real Estate Commission is an agency under the Office
of Professional Regulation, of the Vermont Secretary of State’s office. The
Commission administers all aspects of the real estate law within the state of
Vermont. The Vermont Real Estate Statutes may be viewed online.
The requirements for a real estate salesperson license in Vermont include being at least 18 years of age
and passing the real estate examinations. The salesperson applicant needs to be sponsored by a licensed Vermont broker
and be associated with that broker’s office, and the license needs to be applied for within one year of passing the exams.
The requirements for a real estate broker license in Vermont include being at least 18 years of age and
having successfully completed at least eight hours of approved real estate courses. The broker license applicant needs
to have at least one year of active experience as a real estate salesperson. The proof of the active experience
shall be listing or selling at least six closed transactions during the year. The applicant needs to pass
the real estate examinations and apply for the license within one year.
Both applicants for the salesperson license and the broker license need to sign statements regarding Child Support,
Taxes, and Unemployment Compensation Contributions as a part of the license application. The original license fee
is $50.00 for either a salesperson or broker license applicant.
Out-of-state broker or salesperson applicants must successfully complete an 8-hour broker course before they can
receive a Vermont license.

The real estate examinations are handled by PSI
Examination Services out of Glendale, CA. Examinations can be scheduled online.
Real estate licenses in Vermont are issued for a two-year period and are renewed without further examinations.
All broker licensees need to complete at least 12 hours of continuing education courses during
the two-year period before renewal, and salesperson licensees need to complete at least eight hours
of continuing education courses. If the initial licensing period is less than two years, then the number
of continuing education courses required shall be prorated.
