Where can I get a copy of my credit report and score online without giving a credit card number?
The only source for a truly free credit report is through www.annualcreditreport.com. This website was created in cooerperation with th Federal Government and the three major credit bureaus...TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. The Fair Credit Reporting Act requires each of these three companies to provide you with a free copy of your credit report, at your request, once every 12 months.
You can order your free credit report via internet, phone or mail.
Other websites that promote a "Free" credit report will require you to sign up for a free trial of their credit monitoring service, usually $70 to $100 per year. After your free trial expires, your credit card will be billed. These credit monitoring services are not bad to have, just be aware that you will be charged after the trial if you don't cancel.
Keep in mind that you free report WILL NOT include your FICO score. The intent with these free reports is to allow conusmers the ability to review their report for fraudulent activity.
During the process of ordering your report online, you will be given the option of ordering your credit score for an additional $6 to $8. This is about half the normal fee.
For additional information, review this webpage from the Federal Trade Commission... http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt156.shtm.
You can go to annualcreditreport.com. A new law as of a few years ago requires everyone in the US a free copy of there credit report from all 3 credit bureaus. You're able to view all reports at this website as well as dispute information that you feel is not accurate. The website will not show you a score, however it will show you items that are showing up on your report. If your interested in getting a score and other useful tools, try myfico.com for credit education and useful tools to improve your score.
There are a few different places that say that they offer such a service - Here are the ones that I know of personally.
Go to www.quizzle.com to see your credit report and score for free (it's safe, secure etc...) you can only do this once every 6 months.
To see your Transunion credit score daily for free - go to www.creditkarma.com (I know that it sounds scary, but it is not) - no credit report here though... just a score
If you want to see another credit report - this is the official one - for each of the three agencies: www.annualcreditreport.com - this is the real official site (no score just credit report) you can only do this once a year per credit agency.
