A graduate of the University of Maine's Business School in 1979, I embarked on a voyage into the world of banking & finance upon graduation
[although I did two part-time jobs at banks prior to graduating]. I have held various positions within the lending framework and ended up doing mortgage financing full-time in 1991, some 10 years after writing my very first mortgage. I have worked as a mortgage broker, mortgage banker and bank loan officer in the past 17+ years. I picked up the MisterVA moniker in 1992 while working the Plattsburgh, NY, market. Most of the loans I brought in were VA purchases. I have become proficient in them to the point of being called upon by Mortgage Originator Magazine for my views on the use of the program.

Active in both the Vermont Mortgage Bankers Assn [ www.vermontmba.org ]& the Mortgage Bankers & Brokers Assn of New Hampshire [ www.mbba-nh.org ], I became the first and only person to earn the Certified Mortgage Profesional designation in both states. I also was instrumental in having my previous company, Universal Mortgage Corporation, approved to originate Reverse Mortgages and was the leading producer for the company in that area. I was the Branch Manager at the Newport VT [pop 5,000] office from its inception in 2001. [It closed upon my re-location to Florida]. I also specialize in FHA loans and was awarded a Top Producer Award by the Vermont Housing Finance Agency for Orleans County. I authored a regular column, MORTGAGE MATTERS, for the Newport Daily Express and am a member of the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Assn & the National Aging In Place Council. I author a blog which can be found at www.misterva.typepad.com and have been a contributor to www.mfi-miami.com for VA & FHA mortgages. I passed the mortgage broker exam in the State of Florida, and associated with Aim Mortgage in Bradenton, FL. Recently, I joined Prime Lending, a retail lending institution and will be covering the Highlands County area for the company while still making weekly trips to St Pete. I will once again be able to offer financing options to Vermont customers.

In my spare time, I have picked up the game of golf and served on the board of directors of the Newport Country Club. I recently got my first hole-in-one on a golf outing with my brother-in-law in NC on the way south. My wife and I have 4 children between us and the youngest has just started college in FL. My biggest enjoyment in what I do is to help a family purchase a home when nobody else thought it was possible. I am also a high school varsity basketball official.
