"Home mortgage rates continue to tick up. Qualified buyers who are planning to purchase within a year should act soon. Looking at patterns over decades, history shows that once a pattern of small increases is established, rates will return to the 6-7% range fairly quickly. Interest rates (30 yr fixed) only a month ago were averaging in the 4.25% range...today 4.8%. Both home prices and interest rates are still very low, If I were purchasing a primary home, I would not wait to try to find the absolute..."    View Comment
"This is very interesting data and hard to digest. Unfortunately there is nothing in those figures to guage the trends in the housing market for mid-tier/smaller cities. Larger cities, because of the sheer number of homes for sale skew the overall market data. Short sales and foreclosures are still greatly impacting sales prices of the entire market for single family homes in all areas of the Country. A good excercise would be to separate sales of those houses from the overall market and analyze data..."    View Comment
"This is good information. Although every market is different, these statistics provide a broad view of current trends. My prediction is that we will experience a two or three month void of available buyers starting in May, because of the expiration of the first time buyers incentive. But at the end of that, we will begin to recover to normality (not the buying/price increase frenzy of the 2004-2005 period) but the steady healthy appreciation and buyer activity that we experienced during previous..."    View Comment

This lack of action will delay closings of residential properties along the coastal areas and other areas within the 100 year flood zone. In an already depressed housing market, you would think this would be a priority item for the Senate."    View Comment
"It's great that Congress extended the first time buyer incentive and included step-up buyers in the program as well. This will continue to give a boost to the depressed housing market. Number of units sold has improved (and will continue to improve through April when the program expires) if mortgage rates continue to be low. However, prices will continue to decline until all the foreclosures and short sale properties are flushed from the pipe-line. This will take some time because of the number..."    View Comment

"I work in the Charleston, SC area. The way to find a top notch Realtor is: 1. Interview 3 agents with 3 of the top companies in your area. 2. Ask the following questions-A. How many houses have you sold in the last year? B. What are you going to do to sell my home? C. Can you provide references? Evaluate their responses and compare. 3. Look for the agent who is honest and direct, not the one who gives you the highest list price. Know that anyone can list your house. Only four things sell a home...."    View Post
