    Many years ago (35+) it was common practice in our area for the real estate broker to close the transaction.  I haven't seen that done in as many years.  So unless your agent is an attorney I doubt it.  If the lender allowed it they would probably require a sub escrow be established (additional cost).  Money would be paid into a title company and they would pay out the funds.
