Ok; I tried to up load an image that I saved on my desk top and clicked on the icon above and it asks for a URL. Can anybody explain this to me in easy to understand laymen terms.
I think the picture has to be hosted on a website - that's why you need a url.
Thanks Jen that is what I was thinking. I just had a cool cartoon that I scanned and saved on my desk top that I was going to share.
URL = Uniform Resource Locator
It's a fancy computer tech-head way of saying "address".
URL usually refers to the location of a file on the internet. Every time you type in http://www.etc.com that's the URL.
Files on your computer also have an address, but if you are not used to typing it up properly in URL format you will never be able to enter it correctly. The lack of a BROWSE button hinders that immensely for novices. The BROWSE button allows you to find a file on your computer and have the URL selected automatically for you. I noticed that the INSERT MEDIA function here has one but the IMAGE does not. Try using the INSERT MEDIA button for uploading files from your computer, although the other one really needs to be fixed.
So, are you saying we can upload images from our computer if we know how to format the address correctly?
Why would they want to host images/videos? Wouldn't that waste their server space?

The determining factor is assuming whether this file is an "upload". It doesn't say. An upload means it is copied onto their computer, so they don't need your PC anymore. But if they are just making a link in the page code then your computer would need to be a web-capable server and always turned on to see the picture, as the URL simply points to the address of the picture but does not copy the picture.
Since there is no BROWSE button or anything saying UPLOAD, I'd assume you need to use the INSERT MEDIA function to actually copy your picture over. INSERT IMAGE is probably a bad label and you can't assume an upload is being performed without any instructions in there. The way it's currently set up, I don't see any reason not to use INSERT MEDIA for everything.
I'm no computer genius like you two, but I use Photobucket for everything, html, url, direct link.. but I am sure you guys confused the OP!!
he said laymens terms! I just learned html on myspace, I feel so smart now. My husband is the computer wizard here, you guys should check out the game he is working on, he is on the web side of it, it's www.freakycreatures.com it's pretty neat.
To the OP, I will help you (from one laymen to another) to set up a photobucket account and be able to upload your pics.
Bleh, I just pretend like I know what Greg's talking about.
Kathi, that's cool that your husband is a game programmer. That's what my 8-year old wants to be when he grows up. =) He thinks I can teach him how. Maybe he can hang out with your husband.
Jen:Kathi, that's cool that your husband is a game programmer
He really likes it alot, the game is for kids between the ages of say 8-15, although I catch my husband playing quite often, it is simular to webkinz only with monsters and "freaky creatures", they have been really pushing the game in California, they had a big deal at Venice Beach a few weeks ago, all the creatures were there, the game was supposed to be released this month but now it looks like January.
They have over 100k subscriptions just waiting, the merchandise will hit stores in january, I like the Puff Puff, I gotta have one!!
My son is now addicted to First in Math. I never realized how competitive he is and never thought he'd pass up the wii for math!!
He'd probably like the freaky monster game, too.
After the math, if he ever wants to play, I can get him a beta key to play!!
My husband loves math, I hate it. I have a degree in finance and I struggled with math, I think I just didn't like it, I don't know how I ever made it through college, I never took it seriously until my third year, and look at me know...
I have worked for some big companies non related to the Mortgage Industry, and I realized that corporate america was not for me, I don't follow orders very well, I am insubordinate, so I have been told.
Ok, in layman's terms...
To copy a file from your computer onto this web site;
1. Click the INSERT MEDIA icon.
2. Select the BROWSE button. Another window will open up. This is a gallery to hold your pictures and select from.
3. Use the next BROWSE button to locate and select a picture file from your computer.
4. Click UPLOAD FILE. This will copy the picture from your computer to this web site. It is placed in your personal photo gallery.
5. Select one of the pictures in your gallery and click OK. It will be placed into your post.
It's a much longer process than needed, but the INSERT IMAGE button only seems to work for images that are on another web site. There is no button that allows you to copy from your own computer. If you desire to use that button you will have to copy your pictures to another web site first.
Geeez, you computer guys... The confusion for some, when you say "copy pics from another website" some do not understand what the hell you are talking about smarty pants!
For anyone that wants to upload a picture in the "thread", not for the avitar, just call me and I will help you set up a Photobucket account (other website) to upload your pics into, I did it for Bob V and we got to see his beautiful pic of the lake by his house.
I'm always willing to help!! if anyone needs my number, just call one of the Appraisers on BO, they all have it!

Thanks the above works perfectly except the image was way too large, I will have to reduce the size down then try again.
