I'm a "Boomer" whose friends want small ranches with 2 bdrms, a family rm, a country kitchen and a nice screened patio. With the kids grown who could possibly want a 3 or 4 bedroom home on more than one level?
I don't know where a report like this one is coming from, but you certainly haven't polled the many people I've spoken with. As a REALTOR, I talk to people my age every day who long for something small and affordable, but it doesn't exist.
What a shame.

RE:Homes Of The Future - NAHB Takes A Guess

I hope they are right about the homes becoming greener. Unfortunately, unless the government builds in tax breaks I don' think it will happen. The vast majority of people don't care about their larger home, the Earth, and aren't willing to pay more for "greener" dwellings. Builders are in it for the money, so unless the costs can be cut substantially, there is no way anyone will be willing to foot the bill.

RE:Homes Of The Future - NAHB Takes A Guess

Homes of the future will definitely be geared towards exquisite designs and coupled with advanced technology geared towards safety and simple lifestyles. From the trends seen throughout the years, it appears there is no stopping this.
