Even as the House of Representatives passed two housing rescue bills and the Senate wrestles over a bill of its own, criticism is raining down on those remedies to the housing crisis that are already in place.

There are so many piecemeal plans operating such as Hope Now, Project Lifeline and FHA Secure that it is hard to make any blanket assessment of performance, but a few initiatives stand out.

According to a story written by Lynnley Browning in Wednesday�s New York Times, Hope Now, the White House's initial answer to the country's mounting foreclosures, is failing to provide much help to struggling homeowners, largely because it is operated by the very people who caused the problem in the first place.

Everyday, she states, more than 4,500 people call Hope Now, but few of them appear to be getting the relief they are hoping for.

"Grumble, grumble, grumble," echoed loudly today across America after The President, along with members of the Treasury, unveiled a "plan" to help stem the rising tide of foreclosures.
