The weekly ABC News Consumer Confidence Index fell one point to a reading of -49 for the week ending Dec. 28. Consumer confidence has continued to languish in negative territory for the past 73 weeks.
"Consumer confidence struggled through its second-worst year capped off by the worst fourth quarter ever," the report read.
According to the report, two of three components deteriorated, and all remain in negative territory.
The state of the economy component decreased to -88 from -84, while the personal finance category declined to -10 from -8.
The buying climate climbed up to -50 from the prior week's -52 reading.
