In the absence of any major economic data from any of the G7 nations on Monday, it falls to speakers to fill the day's main economic events, with markets receiving comments from Chicago Fed President Charles Evans and Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke.
At 8:30 a.m. EDT, Statistics Canada will release international securities transactions for February. In January, the transactions balance was +C$10.428 billion, and economists are expecting a balance of +C$1.00 billion.
At 9 a.m. EDT, Chicago Fed President Charles Evans (voter) will deliver opening remarks at an event organized by the Chicago Fed to promote financial literacy.
At 10 a.m. EDT, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke will deliver pre-recorded remarks to listeners at the Chicago Fed's conference.
Also at 10 a.m. EDT, the U.S. Conference Board will release the leading economic index for March. Economists expect a 0.2% month-over-month decline following February's 0.4% fall.
At 1 a.m. EDT, the U.S. Treasury will sell $28 billion in three-month bills and $27 billion in six-month bills.
After the closing bell, IBM is expected to report earnings of $1.66 per share.
