The New Hampshire Banking Department supervises all aspects of the Mortgage Brokers application and activities in New Hampshire. Offices are located in Concord.

All New Hampshire mortgage licenses are handled through the National Mortgage Licensing System. Prelicensing requirements include approved courses that are 20 or more hours and contain 3 hours of Federal Law, 3 hours of Ethics, 2 hours of Non-traditional Mortgage Lending plus 12 or more hours of electives. This may be in addition to New Hampshire-required content. Continuing Education Requirements include at least eight hours of NMLS approved instruction.

The licensing fee for NMLS for Loan Originators is $169, and the fee for Mortgage Broker is $600.  Click on the link in the preceding sentence for more details about each license.

Mortgage Brokers must provide a $50,000 continuous Surety Bond. The bond amount is not contingent upon net worth, although the company must maintain a minimum positive net worth at all times.  Mortgage Broker applicants who live outside of New Hampshire must appoint an agent in New Hampshire to represent them. This agent has to have a NH business address and be open during regular business hours.

Those wanting to become a Mortgage Broker in New Hampshire need to provide a full disclosure of financial history, income, assets, liabilities, financial statements and employment.

Although Mortgage Brokers doing business in New Hampshire do have an affiliate association with the National Association of Mortgage Brokers, the New Hampshire group does not maintain a separate web site. Those wanting to become a Mortgage Broker in New Hampshire will benefit by contacting the local association.
